Marcel Lupse

1954

Marcel Lupse was born in1954, on the 21st of August in Dej, Romania. In 1979 he graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts “Ioan Andreescu” located in Cluj, Romania, in prof. Vasile Crisan’s class. From 1980 he participates in exhibitions organized by the Cluj branch and later the Cluj-Bistrita-Zalau branch of the Romanian Union of Fine Artists. In 1990 he settles down in Bistrita where he works in cultural administration while still pursuing his artistic endeavor. In 1994 he becomes a professor and in 1998 he takes the position of Head of Painting Department at the Art College “Corneliu Baba”. Over the years he participates in over 100 collective and personal exhibitions, both domestic and international. His artistic expression represented in paintings, graphics and objects, is featured in museums and private collections in Romania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Japan, Luxembourg, R. Moldova, Netherlands, Poland, United States, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary.

The flora of the Transylvanian rural landscape is of particular importance to him and he manage to translate it into figurative naratives full of symbolism and spirituality. He lives and works in Bistrita.
