Alain Bonnefoit
1937 -
Alain Bonnefoit is a French painter, engraver, and sculptor. Born in Montmartre in 1937, he studied at the École des Arts Appliqués, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and Brussels, in the Engraving and Sculpture Department.
He spent the next several years working, traveling, and developing his artistic style. Between 1961 and 1963, he worked in the studio of sculptor Antoniucci Volti, who became his mentor. In 1964, he began creating what would become his signature figure: the female nude.
As a master of the East-Asian art of Sumi-e, Bonnefoit's distinctive style, with its characteristically sensuous and elegant depictions of the female form, embraces the use of oils, watercolours, crayon, ink and pencil. He has exhibited in France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Korea, Japan, etc.
1965, he moved to Tuscany, but kept on his studio in Paris.
