Adrian Moldovan
1955 -
Born in 1955 in Stalin City, Romania, Adrian Moldovan attended the Music and Visual Arts High School in Brasov and in 1979 graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts "Ioan Andreescu" in Cluj-Napoca. Mr. Moldovan began his career in Romania where he participated in several individual and group exhibitions but later moved to Vienna where he became a fixture on the local contemporary art scene where he is still active today.
Wether representing a figure, a landscape or a still life, his interpretation of reality is at times rough and grotesque, at other times delicate and nuanced but never boring and conventional. With irony and forceful use of color he is able to create a stylistic landscape of his own, where historical references mix with sexual innuendo and unusual juxtapositions of unrelated objects create an inescapable tension that draws the viewer in.
